A lot of good tips already but let me add a few additional points. I too hit a 10.5* too high and went to a 9.5*. I recently purchased the new Taylor made burner (2007 model) from a demo day. They put me in another shaft to get a more boring launch. The stock shaft caused the ball to ballon.

So consider loft and just as important shaft.

As for getting the cost down, consider eBay. I’ve picked up a lot of equipment either new or used for a lot less then you’d spend in a store.
